(Letter of acceptance from the Sovereign Grand Commander to Illustrious Brother Gary Kuney, 33°)
January 24, 2022
Ill. Gary W. Kuney, 33°
Grand Chamberlain & S.G.I.G. in Oregon
Illustrious Brother Gary:
As we discussed in our telephone call, I accept, with regret, your letter of retirement dated January 9, 2022. I fully respect your decision to focus on family obligations.
As noted, we will plan for the retirement to be effective May 31, 2022, subject to my determination of a suitable replacement by that date.
While we can fill the official Orient leadership role you occupy, I cannot presume that we can easily replace your presence on the Council, meaning your example of integrity and unwavering support for the Council’s mission and for your colleagues. You are a great example of the ideals of Freemasonry and I greatly respect the investment of your time, attention and talents to our cause. I also applaud your career in education that enhanced the lives of so many young people and their communities.
While we continue to work together in the coming months until your retirement, please accept the sincere appreciation of a grateful Council and our Rite.
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Illustrious James D. Cole, 33°
Sovereign Grand Commander
Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry
Southern Jurisdiction, U.S.A.
